Johnnie J. Burgess, Attorney At Law, was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri. Johnnie obtained his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from (Southwest) Missouri State University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Johnnie began his law career as an assistant to the prosecuting attorney in Benton County, Missouri before a brief turn in private practice in Kimberling City. Johnnie then joined the Greene County, Missouri, Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for a period of six years under the direction of former prosecutors Thomas Mountjoy, and J. Ron Carrier. Establishing a private practice office in 1998, Johnnie served clients in the Springfield area primarily in the fields of family law and estate planning while also acting as the jury trial prosecutor for the Springfield Municipal Prosecutor’s Office. Beginning in 2002 and continuing for two years, Johnnie served as Legal Counsel for the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division for the Southwest Missouri Region. In 2004, Johnnie was named Chief Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Springfield, Missouri, where he remained until 2010. Johnnie has also acted as a special prosecutor for the Christian County Prosecutor’s Office.

The overwhelming majority of Johnnie’s nineteen year legal career has been in public service giving him a tremendous amount of courtroom experience. Johnnie has tried hundreds of bench trials in cases relating to both criminal and family law matters, he has tried dozens of jury trials, and has appeared once each in argument before the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern Division, and the Missouri Supreme Court. Johnnie was a member of the Moot Court Board for Appellant Advocacy at UMKC-Law School and a Jurist on the Ethics Court. He has successfully completed the Impaired Driving and Vehicular Homicide Course sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Career Prosecutor’s Course presented by the National District Attorney’s Association. Johnnie served a term on the Board of Directors for CASP, the Community Alternative Sentencing Program, and for over ten years served as a production volunteer for Ozarks Public Television. Johnnie and his wife will reside in Branson.
